We went to Grasse in the Alpes-Martime to see the Fragonard perfumery museum and shops. It was about a hour by train out of Nice, plus a bus ride to the top of the hill where the perfumery is located. It was about a hour by train out of Nice, plus a bus ride to the top of the hill where the perfumery is located. There are tours in English for those interested in learning about the history of perfume-making. After the tour, you have the chance to buy perfumes made there at very good prices. The only problem was that air was so filled with perfume in the huge salon, even with the windows wide open, that it was really hard to decide what to buy. However, they were doing some brisk business there, and if you cannot decide, then you can settle for a set of small sample-sized bottles to purchase. As for the town itself, it was a quaint and interesting place to look around. The outdoor cafés were plentiful but the service was slow and a bit pricy at some places. Definitely worth a trip.close
